Rewind six years now: my spring semester as a junior; Tim’s senior year. We just started our weight training class, and I was taking it with one of my roommates and a couple other people I knew, but this one new guy stood out to me.
In a sea full of “Philly” fans, this “guy,” who I soon learned to be Tim Brockman, wore a New York Yankees shirt! After a short icebreaker exercise guided by our professor, I found out he was from New Jersey (and should have figured that since he was a Yankees fan!).
Back then, Facebook was still in its earlier stages of taking over social networking as we know it today, so I had a feeling I should “friend” him when I got back to my apartment knowing he was from New Jersey like me, and didn’t live far from my own hometown.
A whole year and a half went by without us saying anything to each other, as he graduated that summer, and I was going through my senior year.
Then fall of 2007 came around, and I was working at my first job back home in New Jersey. I received a message on Facebook from Tim commenting about the Yankee game coming up (they wound up losing that year).
After exchanging a few more messages, we realized how close in distance we were and decided to go out and get drinks together — our first official date!
The rest, as they say, is history.
As we hit it off and shared our stories from Bloomsburg — finding out we knew a couple people in the same circle of friends – we continued our relationship for the next two years at which point Tim asked me to marry him on our second anniversary in 2009. We had a year and a half engagement and married on June 4, 2011, surrounded by family and friends!
